Help for Haiti

We’re all struggling.

But really, can you compare your struggles with those in Haiti right now? You’re reading this on your cell phone screen or computer – even if it’s an internet-only computer at a library – how blessed are we?! I’ve read reports the average Haitian makes about $1 a day – not nearly enough money feed a family on.

And that was before the hurricane hit.

There’s a list of reputable charitable organizations here on msnbc.

You can text (yes, text!) “HAITI” to “90999” and a donation of $10 will be sent to the Red Cross to help with relief efforts, charged to your cell phone bill.

Can’t do $10? To donate $5 to Yele Haiti Foundation, type the word “YELE” to 501501

I made my donation to Doctors Without Borders.

To all my couponing friends: money is what’s easiest to work with right now. If your budget is already tight how about donating any “extra” money you save this month? We had a great Sunday for coupons a couple weekends ago – put those coupons and sales to good use! If you have an extra large stock pile or want to give supplies try contacting a local charity – even if it doesn’t go directly to Haitians, you’re still helping someone less fortunate than you are. 🙂
