Blogging again

April 3, 2010 Leave a comment

I think I’m going to try and blog on a regular basis again – even if it’s just a favorite quote or thought of the day.

Last night we created a facebook page for the dog because we’re dorks like that. I hope he doesn’t end up with more friends than me. That would just be sad.

There was also plenty of wine drinking. We used to open a couple bottles every week or at least every couple weeks but it’s been months since we did that – it was a great throwback to how we were.

After sleeping in (darn wine headaches!) we didn’t do much of anything – I was hoping to get more work done outside but the weather wasn’t exactly working with us. We did run to Target but didn’t get anything special. Tonight Jeremy went to see Hot Tub Time Machine but I decided to stay home to read and clean – I’ve finished Handle with Care and Whistlin’ Dixie in a Nor’easter. Both were worth the read – a lot of people don’t like Jodi Picoult but I’m a fan.

My best friend was married this past fall and I had the honor of being a bridesmaid. The photographer finally blogged her wedding! You can see some photos here.

Reposting of “About Me”

January 5, 2010 Leave a comment

I think I’m back though. I’ll start 2010 off by reposting what is currently in my “About Me” section.

My name is Megan, I live and work in the metro-Detroit area. It’s not so bad here.

I’m 26. I shop too much and enjoy scrapbooking.

i like pretty earrings. i like texting. i like christmas time. i like blogs. i like water. i like diet mountain dew. i like water. i like love. i like laughing. i like people. i like babies. i like beer. i like bear hugs and soft kisses. i like york peppermint patties. i like fall colors. i like campfires. i like magazines. i like the henry ford museum and greenfield village. i like the 40s. i like photographs. i like happiness. i like sweaters. i like healthy. i like live theater. i love handwriting.i like music. i like board games. i like colors. i like tv. i like flowers.

Why do I blog? To keep a record of my thoughts, observations and reflections on an ever changing world. I am not a professional writer, I blog honestly and openly. I strive to provide useful advice to those asking questions and thought-provoking statements to those who don’t want to talk but still want to learn. I’m an optimist and that can probably get annoying. I have my ‘down’ days like anyone else but I hope the good days outweigh the bad and that I can spread positivity. I am trying to take it one step at a time to make the world a better place – first by changing myself.

I’m back! First post of 2010.

January 5, 2010 Leave a comment

In case you haven’t noticed, I silently stopped posting to my blog back in November – with the holiday season, work, life, et cetera I had too much to do and not enough time to think about blogging. I still kept semi-current on my favorite blogs (I couldn’t stop checking my favorite deal blogs!) but I haven’t actually logged in to my wordpress account other than to make my blog private (didn’t want to deal with spammers ruling it!) and a quick cute Happy Thanksgiving icon.

I had a great holiday season – no real complaints from me. We had many family parties for Thanksgiving and Christmas – our last and final one was actually just two days ago. I think I’ll take down the Christmas tree tonight even though I don’t want to – I’ve enjoyed the soft light it gives off. I enjoyed taking the 2009 calender off the wall and starting with a fresh, clean year though.

We started off the year (January 3) by waking up to no water. If you know me in real life, you know I’m usually grumpy in the morning – but even grumpier with no shower. We had to drive to Jeremy’s parents (~2 hours) and get ready there before seeing family. It ended up taking an extra day to get the water situation fixed because there was a water main break nearby us at the same time our pipes froze – at first the plumbers were under the impression our water didn’t work because of the water main. They were actually talking about having the county tear up the lawn in order to fix the problem!! Luckily we had some fantastic Oakland County employees out and they confirmed that all we had were frozen pipes. Another trip out from the plumber and I could flush the toliet again! (Did I mention I actually went to Target just to use their bathroom and didn’t even buy anything??) Right now we have to keep our faucets on a slow drip in order to prevent them from freezing again until we have the pipes re-insulated tomorrow. I suppose it’s better to be wasting the water right now than wasting money in having frozen pipes – though that’s not very green of me to say.

on us

“Borrowed” this from Kayla‘s blog:

What are your middle names?
Shay & Kent

How long have you been together?
Since Christmas 2007

How long did you know each other before you started dating?
About two and a half months.

Who asked whom out?
I told him.

How old are each of you?
I’m 26, he’s old: 30. :: gasp ::

Whose siblings do you see the most?
Mine – because she lives a lot closer!

Which situation is the hardest on you as a couple?
My moods, heh, I’m a stubborn one!

Did you go to the same school?

Are you from the same home town?
Not at all.

Who is smarter?
Him. But if he doesn’t know something I can google faster and I’m a master at finding out answers.

Who is the most sensitive?
Absolutely me.

Where do you eat out most as a couple?
Panchero’s! – best. food. ever.

Where is the furthest you two have traveled together as a couple?
Seattle – from Detroit.

Who has the craziest exes?
He has more – so him … even though I lived with one of them and she rocks the nations.

Who has the worst temper?
Totally me. He’s too laid back.

Who does the cooking?
Neither. 😉 But I’m good at boiling water for spaghetti or putting a Steamfresh meal in the microwave.

Who is the neat-freak?
Totally me, he couldn’t care less.

Who is more stubborn?
That’s another me.

Who hogs the bed?

Who wakes up earlier?
He does because he has to get to work earlier.

Where was your first date?
First date was ice skating downtown. We met at a bar on quarter beer night … and racked up a hundred dollar tab. We’re awesome like that.

Who is more jealous?
Me, once again – he’s too laid back.

How long did it take to get serious?
I was serious before we were together haha, it took him a lot longer.

Who eats more?

Who does the laundry?
Me, but he’s pretty good at doing it when I ask. But I have to ask, he won’t just do it.

Who’s better with the computer?
Hmmm … we’re both pretty equal – he knows more programs because of work but I can usually fix malware/virus problems because of my mad skills.

Who drives when you are together?
He does. I don’t think he appreciates my driving abilities.

I don’t usually post pictures here (I tend to keep them on facebook) but I figured I’d go ahead and share some from our trip to Seattle. We went during the hottest heat wave Seattle’s ever seen and I’d like it noted that NO ONE IN SEATTLE HAS AIR CONDITIONING. I have never sweated that much in my life. Ok, grossness aside, we had a great time.

We flew out of Detroit Wednesday and arrived in Seattle in the early afternoon. Jeremy’s parents had flown in a few hours earlier, so they had already explored the market a bit. We decided to go ahead and head to the house where we’d be staying and hang out with his family for most of the day. There were a ton of people staying at the house so we ended up sleeping outside. Turns out, we had the coolest place in the house. The first couple nights we took a fan out there, but luckily it ended up cooling off enough at night we didn’t need it all the time.

(“Our room”)

Jeremy and I made sure to pack Settlers of Catan. We became sort of addicted awhile back and it’s always a blast to play it with a group of people. Unfortunately you need three-four people to play it so Jeremy and I are always willing to convert couples to play. We ended up playing it every night. (Sidenote: after we were back to Detroit we bought an expansion pack so we can play just the two of us. We played twice last night … and I won both times ;))

The first morning we woke up pretty early since we were a few hours off. The time change really worked to our advantage though. We took three of his cousins to the zoo. It was a great zoo. We were there when it opened and there were very few visitors. Most of it was very shaded too so that helped out with the heat.

We became quite good at the bus system. There’s a bus stop at the top of a (quite steep) hill near his aunt’s house so each day we would catch a bus there to get to downtown Seattle. I was a tourist and kept my guidebook with me at all times.

Here’s where they throw the fish.

pike place market

I wanted a $5 bouquet so bad! There was no point in getting one since we were 2000 miles away from home but they were so beautiful – and SO CHEAP!

We also made it to the Seattle Aquarium one day.
arm in the water
Notice who is the only person to stick their hand in the water. 😉

Another day we went to the Experience Music Project, home of the Science Fiction Museum… this was the Jeremy’s highlight of the trip. Unfortunately, they don’t allow pictures inside. I got a picture of the tower of guitars and that was all.

Sunday we went on a cruise/tour with most of his family. I ended up getting sick by the end of it. The heat with the water just didn’t mix well for me.

And that was that … we were home Monday night … awesome vacation! I’d love to go back soon. (Hopefully the weather will be cooler).

games with money

August 9, 2009 Leave a comment

Happy Birthday to me!

When you go to pay your bills, use your imagination, and make up any game you like. Imagine your bills are checks, or imagine that you are giving the money as a gift when you pay them. Add zeros to your bank statement, or put a Bank of the Universe check on your bathroom mirror, on your fridge, at the bottom of your tv screen, on your oven, on the visor of your car, on your desk, or on your computer.

Play, pretend, and make up games that will infiltrate your subconscious with the feeling of abundance.
